PlantUs was founded in 1989 by Larry Shepps. Since then, PlantUs has been intricately involved in landscaping Manhattan. Shaping the Urban Jungle, PlantUs has designed and maintained prominent Manhattan properties such as Madison Square Garden, Rockefeller Center, 432 Park, and Penn Station. Additionally, PlantUs designed and constructed the Gorilla habitat of the Bronx Zoo, providing a home for Koko the gorilla.
PlantUs is a full service landscape architecture company. PlantUs provides design, implementation, and maintenance of indoor and outdoor plant systems, including living walls, rain-gardens, green roofs and public plaza spaces for institutional, residential and commercial clients. PlantUs also works in partnership with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection and local building owners on green infrastructure projects to seal building envelopes and manage stormwater runoff.
Larry Shepps is the CEO and principal owner of PlantUs. He has a horticultural graduate degree from Clemson university and has been transforming the New York City landscape scene for over thirty years. As the founder and owner of PlantUs he lives in Irvington, New York, in a house which he landscaped over the years to turn into a uniquely beautiful property. Mr. Shepps is passionate about green living, infrastructure and values natural beauty in every workspace. Larry enjoys traveling with his three kids and wife during the off season.
Laura Sauer is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for PlantUS, She brings over 10 years of experience with both direct sales and marketing management, in corporate and agency environments. Prior to PlantUs, Laura worked as a Senior Account Executive for an energy efficiency and building automation provider, where she provided sustainability and efficiency services for her clients in the New York tri-state area and Massachusetts. As a natural connector, she enjoys developing partnerships with other industry professionals, and attending networking events and industry conferences. On her off hours, Laura likes to spend her time exploring New York, trying off-the-beaten-path restaurants and traveling. Laura has a BS in Interior Architecture and Design from Indiana University.
Dwight Portocarrero is the Senior Designer for PlantUs. He holds a BS in Architecture from Taubman College at the University of Michigan and a AA in Architectural Drafting from Valencia College. He is a former lighting architect, and currently works in the intersection of nature and design in various scales. Additionally, Dwight is a visual artist that has trained with AiWeiWei in Hong Kong for three years and is currently applying to Columbia’s graduate school for sculpture.
Angel German is an Operations manager for PlantUs. He is one of the most senior people on the PlantUs team having been with us for over four years. Throughout his time here Angel has displayed a passion for working with plants and excels at ensuring the team achieves its daily goals, regardless of the project. Angel also helps maintain projects along with Steve and is responsible for many locations regular visits and maintenance. Angel was born in New York, but don’t let that fool you, as he is a Boston sports fan, wearing Red Sox and Patriot gear any chance he gets. He enjoys talking about all sports and is a fantasy football expert during the season.
Joanne Rivieccio is the Chief Financial Officer for PlantUs. She has been with the company for over five years and expertly handles payroll as well as any other internal financial information. Joann started working in her father’s business of structural steel. She has been working since she was 13 answering phones, and eventually helped bring the business online. She now works with many small businesses helping to digitize their finances and employment sheets. She is well versed in multiple online financial systems. Her favorite flower is the Gardenia.
